New Deal welcomes Coach Isabell Carrion as our new geometry teacher and assistant cross country, track and basketball coach. Coach Carrion graduated from McMurry University with a major in accounting. She comes to NDHS straight out of college where she played basketball at McMurry University. In her college career she garnered success with her team, where they competed in the conference tournament. She also made the ASC- West Defensive team.
Coach Carrion attended Roby High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She also participated in basketball and track. She turned her seasons into quite a success. In basketball she and her teammates advanced to the regionals. She ended her high school career competing in the state tournament. In Track, she competed at the state track meet all four years of High School.
When asked what lessons she learned from her high school and college athletic career, and what she hopes to apply as a coach she said, “There is always room to grow, learn, and get better.”
Coach Blake Manning reached out to her personally and informed her about the open position. “We are excited to have Coach Carrion!” said Manning. Although she is in her first year of coaching, she has a lot of experience with basketball and track. Manning added, “Coach Carrion played on a state tournament basketball team while at Roby, and then played multiple years at McMurry University. She also ran in the state track meet all four years of high school, so we are excited to have her knowledge,c ompetitiveness, and fresh energy in the Lady Lion program
“I like New Deal a lot!” said Coach Carrion. “The faculty is very helpful and nice. They have made my first year not so stressful.”
She has really fit in well at New Deal High School. She says she is looking forward to getting to know everyone and grow as a teacher and as a coach. When she is not teaching or coaching, she says likes to play with her goldendoodle named Finn, and she enjoys watching The Office.
We are so exited to have Coach Isabell Carrion at New Deal High School both in the classroom and in the athletic department! “Coach Carrion has been a great asset to both our educational and athletic programs,” said AD Coach Matt Hill, “and we are fortunate to have her.”9th overall, earning a medal and ending his high school CC career reaching his goal.
Back on October 31st, the team nabbed the title of district champs at Running Waters Regional Park. Our New Deal High students all congratulated them and wished them the best of luck for their competition at regionals. There, Tyler Seeley took first place individually with his personal best time of 17:16. Members Jake Trevey, Tyler Nunes, and Hezi Garcia all followed Seeley’s first place, coming in directly behind him, with Dustin Blake following in 7th to assist in the team’s title. “I am proud of what my team has accomplished this year, and believe they can go further than they already have in the future,” said cross country coach Joseph Cedillo.
“Tyler is an awesome young man, and we are so proud of him for always giving everything he has as a New Deal Lion,” said ND athletic director Coach Matt. Hill. Congratulations to Tyler and his teammates on a great season!
