The softball field, which is east of the high school, is under construction. To make the field look nicer, it was decided to add a brick backstop instead of just a fence. The new backstop helps make the New Deal softball fieldlook more sophisticated. Coach Ford is also ordering his team practice outfits and a new uniform.
Erin Montez says, “Our field, along with our clothes, have been used by our softball team for a couple of years without change. They kind of felt like what you might call Hand-me-downs. I think it was time for a change, something new.” Coach Ford is also getting new catcher’s gear. Reymie Sue Monasterio, the softball varsity catcher, says, “I am excited for the new gear, so I can be more comfortable out on the field.”
There will also be an online store for any parents or supporters who would like to buy New Deal wear. The store will include a variety of items such as shirts and hoodies. The softball team’s first game is March 7th against sundown. Alex Rangel says, “High school softball is new to me. I am so nervous for the new season to start. I look towards the upperclassmen for support and advice. They have helped prepare me for what to expect from the coaches, the other teams, and practices.” Softball and baseball will try their hardest and have a great season.
