English I-3rd Period Assignments

Write an entry describing how you plan to spend your summer break. 

Answer the revising and editing questions about "The Case for a Mentoring Program".

For those of you doing remote instruction, the past two days we have watched The Outsiders film. Today and tomorrow while students take exams, I would like for you to complete this exam review. Your exam date will depend on your school/in-person return date.

Define the following words. We will be starting The Outsiders next week. These 15 words will be found within the first two chapters.

Write an essay about the importance of friendship. Your essay should include 5 paragraphs: Introduction, 3 body paragraphs, and a conclusion.

Based on what you know of the story's plot, answer the following comprehension questions.

The first "Comprehension" section pertains to the major points of the story's plot. The second "Critical Thinking" section discusses aspects related to the story's major themes. The third "Characterization" section analyzes the author's use of characterization.

Use the "Written Response Construction" notes as a reference for answering your discussion questions.

When answering your questions, try to think of the acronym RQE. RQE - Restate the question, answer the question, and provide evidence that supports your answer.

Be sure to use complete sentences. Your answers will not be counted if you do not write with complete sentences.

After reading Sandra Cisneros' "Eleven", fill in the plot diagram. This diagram will help you to analyze important aspects of the story, and the plot as a whole.

For this assignment, use the attached document as a reference for composing appropriate, professional emails.

Go to Youtube and watch "The Joy That Kills". This is a film interpretation of Kate Chopin's "Story of An Hour". Once you have finished the film, complete the comparison assignment. You will be comparing the passage and the film.
