Today we are investigating shadows and how the Earth's position changes and the shadows move throughout the day.

Find something to build a tower with. It needs to be about a foot tall. ( We are using LARGE Legos. )
and 5 colors ( markers/ crayons or anything can be used as long as you can tell them apart. )

Set the tower in the middle of a piece of paper.

1.Get a flash light and hold it on near the floor facing the tower. To represent the sun RISING.
Observe the position of the shadow and draw the outline on the paper under your tower in your first color.

2.Move the flashlight 1/2 way up the tower but angled down to represent the sun at 10:00 am
Observe and draw it in your second color.

3. Move the flashlight to shine directly down on the tower representing NOON
Observe and draw the outline in the 3rd color.

4.Move the flashlight to a 3:00 position
Observe and draw the outline in your 4th color.

5. Move the flashlight to the a SUNSET position (opposite of the sun rise position.)
Observe and draw the outline in the 5th color.

Measure the length and the time of each shadow position and create a graph to represent it.
