One-Act cast and crew places second at District, Advances to Bi-District, Moves on to Area

On Wednesday, March 6th, 2019, the New Deal One-Act Play cast and crew competed in their District competition held in Post, Texas. These students have been working hard since November and have spent countless hours memorizing lines, blocking the stage, and acting.

"We did very well, even though at the beginning it was a little rocky, but we managed to overcome that and end on a great note," said junior Garrison Durham.

After each of the casts performed, there were awards given to the Honorable Mention All-Star Cast, All-Star Cast, and Best Actor/Actress. In the New Deal cast, five of our actors received awards. Maddison Stinnett and Garrison Durham received All-Star Cast, Angelica Pantoja and Aaron Aguirre earned Honorable mention All-Star Cast, and Ivy Adams was awarded Best Actress.

"I was beyond shocked when they called my name for best actress," said Ivy. "My heart was racing and I could not believe that I did it. We all have worked so hard to push each other, and if it wasnít for all the hard work, I donít know how I would have received this great honor," she added.

The advancing schools were announced following awards: Post, New Deal, and Lockney. These 3 schools competed for the Bi-District Title on March 22nd also at Post High School.

On Friday, March 22nd, the One-Act Play fared well in the Bi-District round. They left school at 6:15 am. The students had an hour of tech time at 7:00 am. Athlough having technical difficulties, they worked through the problem and taped the set. After the tech time, the cast had a few hours to rest and prepare for their turn on stage.

"Our technical aspect was very difficult," said freshman Erin Montez. "The lights were not working, but through all that, we still managed to overcome that obstical and had great scene work in." The cast was scheduled to perform second. The order of performing was: Post HS, New Deal HS, Olton HS, Vega HS, Sudan HS, and finally, Lockney HS.

"Our performance was very good - one of our best, but there were a few rough spots," said senior Paul Ray Rodriguez.

Following the castsí performances, the awards ceremony was held. Several members of the New Deal cast received awards. The Best Technical Crew award went to New Deal; Angelica Pentoja received All Star Cast, and Gabby Corrales and Ivy Adams both received Honorable Mention All Star Cast.

New Dealís OAP will advances to the Area around of competition to be held on Saturday, April 6th, 2019, at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas.

"I am very proud of our One-Act Play cast and crew, and I wish them the best of luck," said HS Principal Mr. Matt Reed.
