By ZaZanna Burton

During the first semester in the month of September, New Deal High School junior Talor Rowland auditioned for a spot in the All-Region Jazz Band. Talor not only made the band, but he earned first chair in the second of two jazz bands.

ďThis was his very first attempt at All-Region band in Talorís band career, and he did an excellent job,Ē said ND band director Mr. David Speer.

With that being said, this past weekend Talor traveled to South Plains College for a rehearsal to prepare for the bandís concert performance. Members rehearsed all day Friday and then preformed in a concert on Saturday, January 19th at 12.00pm at SPC in Levelland, TX.

Talorís band director was Mr. Phillip Sutherland from Texas Womenís University. Talor said he learned how to play in a jazz band, which is considerably smaller than our Lion Pride Band. He learned to play different styles of music including: swing, Latin, and funk. Talor shared that he even had to improvise a solo at the concert. Congratulations to Talor Rowland on his determination and effort and representing the Lion Pride Band so well.
