All across the United States, Wednesday, February 6th was National Signing Day for high school seniors to sign letters of intent high to play sports at the next level. Traditionally National Signing Day is the First Wednesday of February. New Deal High School had three athletes sign to colleges. DK Blaylock signed to Boise State located in Idaho. Colleges like Iowa State also talked to DK about attending and playing for their school. After many thoughts, other college opportunities, and college visits DK decided that Boise was a good fit for him.

I was really nervous to move so far, says Blaylock, but they made my visit feel like I was at home and I fit right in.

Jett Whitfield has signed to Texas Tech University, receiving one of the coveted preferred walk-on spots. Jett has received offers from colleges such as Sam Houston State University and Fort Hays State as well as a few other colleges. Jade Landeros signed to become a Pioneer and play for Wayland Baptist University in Plainview. Jade has been on visits to Wayland and actually decided his junior year that was the school for him.

I am really excited to be playing for Tech, Whitfield said, When you have been a Tech fan for so long, especially growing up in Lubbock, it is amazing to get an opportunity to be a part of their team.

These athletes signed their letters in the high school gym and had their families come out to support them, along with all the students from the high school. The signing started with Jade sitting with his parents on either side of him as he made it official with the Wayland.

I am beyond proud to have been a Lion and am thankful for the team and coaches making it possible for me to move on with football, Landeros said.

Then Jett moved to the table after cheering on his teammate and took a seat to sign to Tech. DKs official signing was the last of the three. The students were there along with friends and family of the boys and each student walked by and congratulated them on their future endeavors.
